Chester Wayne Mahaffey, 78 of Xenia, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in McDermott.  He was born on July 24, 1946 in Adams County to the late Chester Sherwood Mahaffey and Viola Flo Webb Mahaffey.  On January 11, 1964, he was united in marriage to Sheila Ann Thatcher Mahaffey of Xenia.  In addition to his wife, Chester is survived by his children; Kevin (Donna) Mahaffey of West Portsmouth, Brian (Dana) Mahaffey of Xenia and Lisa (Jason) Howard of Xenia; Papaw to grandchildren, Jessica (Todd) Wyman of West Portsmouth, Cynthia (Jon) Marshall of Xenia, BreAnn (Danny) Dotson of Xenia, Shawna (Kalob Hudgel) Mahaffey of Xenia, Jessica Lynn Finelly of Florida and Little Kevin Stratton of Tennessee; great grandchildren, Owen Wyman, Anna Wyman and Blakelee Dotson; siblings, Joe Mahaffey of Amelia and Peggy Mahaffey of Seaman; special friends, Roger Thomas, Mike Moore and many others.  In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by two sisters; Sharon Heater and Ruthie Mahaffey; brother-in-law, Donnie Thatcher and sister-in-law, Rita Cooper.

Chester was a proud United States Marine who served his country during Vietnam.  He was a retired millwright from General Motors.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway with Pastor Dave Dowdy officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery with military honors by William Baker American Legion Post 363.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
