Obituary

David Burton Kingrey, 68, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at OSU Hospital on October 26, 2026. Born on January 18, 1958, in Portsmouth, Ohio, David was the youngest of six children born to the late Elizabeth and Doc Kingrey of Otway, Ohio. Throughout his life, David embodied the values of hard work, dedication, and love for his family.

David is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Rita Kingrey (Shirey); son, Eric (Mandy) Kingrey of Piketon, Ohio; two granddaughters, Abigail and Madison Kingrey; siblings, Larry (Teresa) Kingrey of McDermott, Ohio; Shirley (Wally) Taylor of Otway, Ohio; Allen Kingrey of Otway, Ohio; and Debbie (Jay) Cropper of Otway, Ohio. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Kingrey of Otway, Ohio; father, Doc Kingrey of Otway, Ohio; brother, Rickey Kingrey of Otway, Ohio; and their infant son, Devon Burton Kingrey.

David graduated from Northwest High School in McDermott, Ohio, in 1976 and furthered his education in Carpentry at the Scioto County Vocational School. His passion for woodworking led him to establish a logging and timber business, where he was known for his skill and expertise. His love for creating and building was evident in many projects over the years. David spent more than 20 years as a semi-truck driver for Greg Lute Trucking and most recent Dave Burton Trucking.

In his younger years, David enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball in a league and was a member of a local bowling team. As his family grew, David's greatest pleasures came in spending time with his son, granddaughters, and family camping, SXS riding, taking cruises, and traveling out West. His favorite destination was Hawaii. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. David also held a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, who will miss him greatly.

David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway. Burial will follow in Koenig Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
