Obituary

Donald Ray Beekman was surrounded by his family at his home on Beavers Ridge Road when he met Jesus on Wednesday April 5th, 2023 at 12:40 am. He was two weeks away from his 92nd birthday.

Don was born on April 16, 1931 to the late Robert and Blanche (Caves) Beekman who preceded him in death. He was the fourth of eleven siblings. At the age of 12 years old, Don joined his father and brothers in the timber business. This began a lifelong love for the woods and for the outdoors. He learned early in life the value of hard work but would tell you that work was what he liked to do for fun. Don cut timber, ran multiple sawmills, and put many miles on his log truck often working daylight until dark.

Don took great pride in his land and was always looking for an opportunity to acquire more because "they aren't making any more of it." He knew his land like the back of his hand and enjoyed working to improve it. A collector of forklifts, John Deere bulldozers and Ford tractors, his daughter and granddaughters will always remember riding along side of him.

He enjoyed simple and humble country living with eggs, bacon, and coffee every morning. His hands were rough and calloused, but he was always freshly shaven with a tucked in button up shirt. A friend to many, he was always ready to help those in need.

On March 24, 1956, Don married Edith Irene Hougland and to this union, they welcomed their only child; Connie Sue (J) Howell of Peebles, OH who survives. Connie was Don's constant side kick and that continued until his last day on earth.

Don is also survived by his granddaughters: Shelly (Rodney) Williams of London, OH, Christi (Greg) Wilkett of Piketon, OH. Step grandsons: Shawn and Samuel Howell. Also surviving are great grandchildren; Breanna (Quinn) Hidy, Trevor Mustard, Meredith Pabst, Bryce and Brayden Pearson, Dillon (Emily) Howell, Clayton (Allison) Howell and a great great grandchild, Greyson Howell.

Don is also survived by his sisters, Bernice Beavers, Darlene Senig, Freeda Ours and Anna Martin. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Ralph, Paul, Junior, Dewey, and Arnold (Pete) Beekman along with a sister Audrey Nelson.

In keeping with Don's wishes, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Whiteoak Cemetery.
