John Darrell Nichols, Sr., 76 of Otway passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at his residence.  He was born on October 10, 1944 on Bracken Ridge in Otway to the late Darrell "Buck" Nichols and Marjorie Ruth Evans Nichols.  Surviving are his children; John D Nichols, Jr of Otway and Josh D Nichols of Otway, Brian Chandler of Waverly, Sheri Nichols of Otway and Kristi (Terry) Chandler Shepherd of Rarden; eleven grandchildren, Stacy Murphy, Jordan Nichols, Cody Nichols, Madison Taylor, Tucker Taylor, Zane Gilley, Lane Gilley, TJ Shepherd, Evan Chandler, Elliana Chandler and Emmalee Chandler; seven great grandchildren, Landon, Haleigh, Peighton, Harleigh, Jailynn, Bryleigh and soon to arrive Kylie; six brothers, Charles "Butch" (Carol) Nichols of Otway, Robert "Bob" (Deborah) Nichols of Otway, Peter (Glenna) Nichols of Otway, Fred (Debbie) Nichols of Otway, David (Cindy) Nichols of Otway and Edward "Tom" (Rilla) Nichols of West Union; six sisters, Audrey (Lloyd) Gambill of Otway, Mary (Grover) Cook of New Albany, Judy (Bill) Kremin of McDermott, Sue (Daniel) King of Wheelersburg, Anita (Ryan) Gillette of Lucasville and Pam (David) Gallion of Otway and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son; James "Jim" "Biggin" Darren Nichols.

John was a graduate of Northwest High School and retired as an electrician for Norfolk and Western Railway.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway with Pastor Jimmy Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in Nichols Family Cemetery on Knoxel Hill Bracken Ridge, Otway, Ohio.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
