Julia Ann Arthur, 76, of Rarden, Ohio passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth. She was born March 17, 1947 in Bethel, Ohio daughter of the late Fred Oran Hess and Nicie Margaret Mutter Gregory. Surviving are her children, Ralph (Kelly) Galloway of McDermott, Ronald Galloway of Portsmouth, Millie (Ray) Mills of Lucasville and Rachel (Zach) Stewart of Lucasville; grandchildren, Jimmy (Shey) Galloway, Emillie (Matt) Mutz, Caleb (Alli) Mills, Faith and Emma Stewart and Josh and Chelsea Meadows; great grandchildren, Katie, Staci, Dannie, James and Liam Galloway and Adelynn, Ailani and Odin Wiget and Violet Meadows; sisters, Marie Gent of Waverly and Nancy Hess of Rarden; brother, Robert Lee (Phyllis) Hess of Otway; many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly; special friend and caregiver, Megan Barker and her fur babies, Maggie and Fancy. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Lowell and Roy Hess and a granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Mills Wiget.

Julia was a nurse at Mercy Hospital and SOMC for twenty-seven years. She loved her dogs and her family and enjoyed taking care of other people.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway. Burial will follow in Hoffer Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
