Nancy Mae Hess, 82 of Rarden, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. She was born on June 4, 1944 in Newtown, Ohio to the late Fred Oren Hess and Nicie Margaret Mutter Hess. Surviving are her children; Shelly (Ronald) Wood of Peebles, Amanda (Dennis) Landrum II of Peebles, Earl Maddy of Winchester, Thomas (Ida) Maddy of Rarden, Jeff (Dianna) Maddy of Peebles and Mark (Rebecca) Maddy of Otway; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and many sisters in law and one brother-in-law. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by the father of her children; Floyd Maddy and her siblings; Julia Arthur, Elmer Hess, Lowell Hess and Roy Hess.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway with Pastor Billy Journey officiating. Burial will follow in New Hoffer Hill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the funeral home in Otway and for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
