Walter Eugene Shanks, 79, of Peebles, Ohio passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.  He was born May 25, 1944 in Pike County, Ohio to the late George and Marie Jones Shanks.  On April 10, 1972 he was united in marriage to Virginia Stone Shanks who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Stacy (Sonia) Shanks of Peebles, Diane (Michael) Thompson of Piketon and Shannon (Gary) Coriell of Wheelersburg; and grandchildren, Erin (Brittany) Walburn, Garrett Thompson, Bryce Thompson, Cody Shanks, Jaden Shanks, Shelby Shanks and Kendal Shanks; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Edith Radcliff, Charles Shanks, Imogene Deacon, Robert Shanks, Elsie Shanks, Ruby Shanks and Betty Ruth Russell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March15, 2024 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Dean Lansing officiating. Burial to follow in East Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
