William George Pierce, 84, of Piketon, Ohio died Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 3, 1938 to William and Virginia (Gochoel) Pierce. He is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of 44 years, Glenda D. Pierce, one daughter, Shelly (Keith) Robinson; three step-daughters, Tiffany Noble, Tracy (Scott) Legg and Myla (Den) McDowell; 14 grandchildren, Kayla (Justin) Brewster, Hillary Clemmons, Evan (Erin) Legg, Emily (Kolt) Goode, Trevor McDowell, McKenzie (Brady) Lambert, Macy McDowell, Josh (Jillian) Robinson, Jacob (Amy) Robinson, Leah (Mark) Ochsenhirt, Danielle (Mike) Van Skoyck, Ashley (Rusty) Lovell, Kearstin Pierce and Dairien (Jake) Young; 20 great grandchildren; a sister, Malinda Schroeder; sister-in-law, Cathy (Bill) Williams; brother-in-law, Eric (Kim) Williams; nephews, Josh (Chrystal) Amato, Ben Amato and Travis Williams and niece Heather (Drew) Lammon. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his stepfather, Floyd Flannagan, son Jeffrey Pierce, sister, Marilyn Bowden, brother, David Pierce and father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Vi Williams.
Bill graduated from West Carrollton High School in 1957, where he played football as well as competing in the long jump and hurdles. He was awarded a football scholarship to Georgetown University in Georgetown, Kentucky and played semi-pro football for the Dayton Triangles and Dayton Colts. After competing in sports, he became a referee for football and basketball and an umpire for baseball. He was a lifetime sports fan especially of The Ohio State University and Cleveland Browns. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He treasured his time with his wife, Glenda . He will be missed, but not forgotten.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home with Pastor Bud Brabson officiating. Burial will follow in Cottie's Corner Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
